TRUFFLES

http://mcdn.allochocolat.com/uploads/images/TruffleBitesCloseup.jpg?aebb33Truffles are delicious, and there are truffles all around the world. We know there are chocolate, white chocolate, and coffee truffles. There are many types, but have you ever tasted Oreo Truffles?

Truffles were invented in France. They were originally made of ganache, chocolate, cream, and they were often rolled in cocoa.
They were accidentally invented in the 1920's, when a baker's apprentice unintentionally poured hot cream into a bowl of chocolate chunks, instead of pouring it into the bowl of sugared eggs. Later the mixture hardened, and the apprentice saw that he could give shape to it, so he made a small chocolate ball. He rolled the balls into cocoa powder and the first truffles were invented.
Later the mixtures were changed and new types of truffles were developed. Some bakers added chopped nuts, others added sugar and others decided to flavor the ganache with Champagne.

As a fun fact, the chocolate truffles were named after fungus because their rounded and irregular shape resembled the appearence of the truffle fungus, which are usually found near the roots of trees.
